Here, you’ll find everything you need to play Christmas Charades. I’ve even created 48 free printable Christmas Charades prompts that you can download towards the bottom of this post.
What is Christmas Charades?
Charades is a word-guessing game in which one player acts out a word or phrase without speaking while others try to guess what it is.
This Christmas version goes by the same rules it just has a festive twist. Each of the prompts are holiday holiday-related. The holiday-themed prompts include things like holiday songs, movies, traditions, holiday characters, and more.
How to Play Christmas Charades
Here are some quick instructions on how to play Christmas Charades:
Get Your Group Together
It’s best to play Christmas Charades with at least four people. That way you can divide into two teams of two. But with charades, the more the merrier!
Prepare the Christmas Charades Prompts
Download the free printable Christmas Charades prompts in this post, or you can make your own. You’ll want to fold each prompt so no one can see what it is and mix them all together in a bowl.
Set a Timer
Use a timer or stopwatch – I like using the timer on my phone. I think it’s easy and it works great! A common time limit for each round is 60 seconds.
Act it Out
The first player draws a prompt from the bowl and silently acts it out. No talking or sound effects are allowed in charades!
Guess the Prompt
While the first player is acting out the prompt their teammates try to guess the charade before the time runs out. If they guess the correct answer, they score a point.
Switch Teams
Take turns between teams until all the prompts are used or you decide to end the game. You could even do something like the first team to get 10 points wins.
Tips for Playing Christmas Charades
Here are some simple tips for playing Christmas Charades:
Keep it Lighthearted
The goal of Christmas Charades is to connect, create memories, and have fun with those you love. So, enjoy the game, and don’t worry if you don’t have perfect acting skills!
Use Helpful Gestures
There are common charade gestures like “sounds like” or “small word”, these can help guide your team in the right direction.
Adjust the Game for All Ages
Depending on the age group you’re playing with, be sure to adjust the prompts so that it is fun for everyone. Younger children may need simpler prompts and a little more time to act it out.
